Decades of student journalism are being brought back to life at the 向日葵视频;Verne, where archival editions of听Campus Times are now being digitized and made publicly accessible.听
The initiative began with student Adonis Borer, a senior majoring in psychology, who partnered with university archivist Keren Darancette to preserve the historic newspapers.听
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 want these stories to just sit in boxes,鈥 Borer said. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e part of our history, and people should be able to read them.鈥听
The archive traces the newspaper鈥檚 beginnings in 1919 and reflects periods of both growth and hardship. During the Great Depression, production of听Campus Times temporarily stopped because the funding didn鈥檛 exist to publish it.听
Darancette said student publications provide an important record of campus life.听
鈥淭hey capture what students were thinking, debating and experiencing at a specific moment in time,鈥 she said. 鈥淒igitization ensures that history is preserved and accessible.鈥听
The project includes carefully scanning fragile print editions and organizing them into a searchable online archive. Borer, whose father, Eric Borer, works in the university鈥檚 communications department and supervises current Campus Times staff members, said the experience strengthened her connection to the campus community.听
鈥淚t鈥檚 meaningful to help protect something that tells our story,鈥 she said.听
The first edition can be viewed here:. Additional editions will be added to the digital archive in the coming months.
